Abstract

The goblet cell carcinoid (GCC) tumour of the appendix is an uncommon neoplasia that shares the histological attributes of both adenocarcinoma and carcinoid tumours. Its prognosis has a more aggressive course than the other known carcinoid tumours. Clinical diagnosis of GCC is seldom made preoperatively. The most common clinical presentation of GCC tumour is acute appendicitis. In this study, we reported the patient whom right hemicolectomy was performed because of ceacal sesil polyp with high grade dysplasia and GCC tumour of appendix has been revealed incidentally in the microscopic evaluation of appendectomy specimen. Patients healed uneventfully and recurrence did not occur after the 12 month follow-up period. Careful microscopic examination of the appendectomy specimen is the key point for the diagnosis of appendiceal tumours such as GCC, especially in eldery patients.
