Abstract
This study was performed to determine the accuracy of ultrasound (US) and diagnostic peritoneal lavage (DPL) for the evaluation of İntraabdominal injury (IAI) in patients with pelvic fractures. Ninety one patients admitted with pelvic fractures following blunt trauma during a 24 month period were retrospectively reviewed. In these patients, sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy for US and DPL were estimated. The rate of IAI was 18 percent. Sensitivity, specificity and accuracy were 100%, 74%, 77%for US and 100%, 100%, 100% for DPL. As a conclusion, we recommend that US may be the first-line screening test and DPL should remain a standard diagnostic tool in the evaluation of patients with pelvic fractures.
