Abstract
Results of studies about the preventive effect of low molecular weight heparin (LMWH) in deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in surgical patients are in conflict. The efficiency of LMWH in DVT prophylaxis has been investigated in 80 high risk surgical patients. Patients were divided into two equal groups. No prophylaxis treatment was given to the control group. Nadroparin Calcium was injected subcutaneously at a dose of 0.3-0.6 mg/day for seven days, beginning 12 hours before the operation to the second group. Patients were evaluated clinically and radiologicaly by dublex ultrasonography on 7th day, Haemoglobin, heamatocrit, leukocyte, and platelet counts, bleeding and clotting time were also evaluated during the study. There were no significant differences in haematological and radiological results between the groups. In addition, deep venous thrombosis was not seen in both groups.
