Abstract

Open management facilitates frequent reexploration. It serves to decompress the high intraabdominal pressure. A prospective study was planned to evaluate the effect of the Zipper Glider between two groups. Twenty patients were included in the study. Group 1 consisted of ten patients and the learning curveperiod. Group 2 consisted of the other ten patients. Hospitaiization period was 32 days in Group 1, 29 days in Group 2. APACHE-II score was 18 and 22 in Group 1 and 2 on living patients, 32 and 38 on lost patients. There was significant difference between the mortality rates. The mortality rate was 80 percent in Group 1 and 20 percent in Group 2. The difference was contributed to our experience, scoring of the patients and the time of open abdomen.
