Abstract

Surgical techniques which provide local control of the cancer while preserving the body image of women are widely used. The problems which originated from breast saving surgery itself and existing additional cosmetic breast pathologies like macromastia, micromastia or ptosis decrease the aesthetic quality of conservative surgery.

Conservative surgical techniques were used in three patients; breast reduction in a case with macromastia and mastopexy in two patients having ptosis. The results were satisfactory.

Review of the literature and observation of our cases support the idea that macromastia no longer constitute a contraindication for conservative surgery. When the breast has some trouble, it should undergo reduction. Aesthetic disorders such as breast ptosis could also be corrected during the same session.

We believe that in order to obtain ideal cosmetic results from conservative surgery in cancer treatment, additional aesthetic breast pathologies must be investigated and corrected along with conservative surgery.
