Abstract
With the introduction of segmental transplantation of the pancreas, the current topic of interest has become the question of inequality of the endocrine status of transplants taken from different parts of the organ. In this study, ability of different parts of the pancreas to maintain carbohydrate metabolism is investigated. Equally proportioned right and left 80% pancreatic resections were performed and the reactions of insuline and antiinsuline systems on load were evaluated.
It was found that the head of the pancreas compensates the loss of distal pancreatic mass and malntains carbohydrate metabolism better than the tail, following a right-sided resection.
The influence of partial denervation and uneven distribution of hormonal cells on carbohydrate homeosthasis is discussed.
