Abstract

Primary goal in the repair of inguinal hernias is the safe reconstruction of the inguinal floor. Biosynthetic materials such as polyproplylene may be used to reinforce, to repair or as a substitute for the inguinal floor. Polypropylene grafts were used to repair 31 hernias of 29 patients between November-1989 and May-1992 at the Surgical Department of The Agean University Medical School. A retrospective study was planned to evaluate the repairs. Twentyseven patients could be evaluated and recurrence was found in three (11.1%) patients, one patient (%3.7) had ischemic orchitis and one patient (%3.7) had restriction of the lower extremity motor functions.
