Abstract
A prospective study was designed to investigate the cardiac left ventricular functions in patients with obstructive jaundice and subsequently the effects of Ringer Lactate Infusion into these functions.
Systolic time intervals (STI) were determined since this is a non invasive and quantitative test.
After Ringer lactate infusion the impaired left ventricular function tests improved and this was statistically significant (p<0.01).
The alterations in the cardiac function tests were not related to the serum bilirubin levels. Urinary output increased significantly (p<0.001) after Ringer Lactate infusion.
