Abstract
The serum and cyst fluid of Selenium and Copper were investigated both in patients and sheep with hydatid cysts. Results were compared with the ones of healthy subjects in both species. Data was further analyzed according to the organ involvement and fertility of hydatid cysts. Lower serum values of Se and Zn, and higher for Cu all related to healthy control subjects, were obtained both in human beings and sheep with hydatid cyst (p<0.001). Our results on three trace elements were found well-correspondig to those of cirrhosis, malignant and infectious diseases and arthritis. Se was not in cyst fluid while Cu and Zn levels were found signifıcantly lower than serum levels. Cu and Zn levels in cyst fluid showed no difference in both species. Variations of serum Cu, Zn and Se levels were insignificant regarding to the organ involvement and fertility.
