Abstract
In this experimental study, the potential mucosal protective effect of a prostaglandin E preparation, Dinoproston, against ethanol, ascetic acit or HCI that was intragastrically administered to rats, were examined.
47 rats were used in this study. Five of these rats were used as a control group. The other 42 rats were divided into six groups that each include 7 rats. 50 % ascetic acid to first group, absolute ethanol to second group, and 1 M HCI to third group were instilled by orogastric tubes. The rats were killed 30 minutes later and the stomach of each rat were removed for macroscopic investigations. The rats in fourth, fifth and sixth group were pretreated by Dinoproston.
Thirty minutes later, ascetic acid to fourth group, ethanol to fifth group and HCI to sixth group were administered and the stomachs were quickly removed half an hour later.
Although mucosal protective effect of Dinoproston against ethanol and ascetic acid were observed bv macroscopic investigation, it was not observed against HCI. In microscopical investigation protective effect was detected only to absolute ethanol.p> In conclusion, it was decided that Dinoproston will be able to protect against the damage of mucosal barrier of rat stomachs that occured by absolute ethanol, but not to ascetic acid and HCI.
