Abstract

177 female (mean age: 45.02±12.59 years) and 62 male (mean age: S2.25±10.01) patients, on whom laparoscopic cholecystectomy was performed between July 1993 and December 1995 In the General Surgery Department of Akdeniz University Medical Faculty Hospital, were divided Into two groups according to their body mass index (BMI) obese +overweight and normal+underweight. BMI was compared with operating time, conversion rate, incision site complications and hospital length of stay. There were no statistically significant difference between the two groups according to the variables used In the study. Based on these findings, It was concluded that videoendoscopic surgery should be preferred in patients with high BMI.
