Abstract

Traumatic abdominal wall hernia is a rare condition secondary to blunt abdominal trauma in adults. We herein present a 25- year-old man with traumatic herniation through the right lateral abdominal wall following high velocity blunt abdominal trauma (he had been hit by a forklift). Although most attention during the primary diagnostic process is directed toward the detection of internal injuries at the abdomen, blunt trauma to the abdomen may result in defects at the abdominal wall, as well. The patient underwent emergency exploratory laparotomy and, a segment of the omentum and transverse colon were found to be herniated. A primary repair was performed.
