Abstract

Modified or original Shouldice procedures were performed for inguinal hernias on 24 and 22 patients respectively in Amasya Military Hospital. In each procedure, patients were divided into two groups randomly. In one group, excision was performed without ligature of the sac, and in the other group with a high ligation of the neck. The patients were followed-up for an average of 9.4 months. Sensation of pain and recurrence were evaluated. Less pain and analgesic usage was detected in the modified Shouldice repair without sac ligation (p<0.05).
