Abstract

Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the clinical outcomes of patients who had undergone gastric bypass surgery for morbid obesity. Material and Methods: Seven morbidly obese patients who had undergone Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery, at 3rd. General Surgery Department of Sisli Etfal Training and Research Hospital, between March 2005 and January 2006 have been evaluated prospectively. The patients' weight, body mass index (BMI) and excess weight loss % (EWL%) have been reported at postoperative 1st, 3rd and 6th months. Results: The mean body weight of the patients was 122.14kg (104-148), and BMI 47.29kg/m2 (40.05-65.25), preoperatively. At 6th months, the mean body weight was 91.42 kg, BMI 35.6kg/ m2 and EWL was 48.79%. Conclusion: Gastric bypass surgery is an effective treatment for morbid obesity which results in weight loss and improvement of coexisting disorders related to morbid obesity.
