Abstract

242 patients with major trauma who were admitted to Emergency Department of Uludağ University Hospital were reviewed to identify factors affecting outcome. The age, systolic blood pressure, pre-hospital time, emergency time, referral f rom other hospitals, anatomic localization of injury, Injury Severtiy Score (ISS), Revised Trauma Score (RTS) and Glasgow Coma Score (GCS) were used to calculate the signifance of variables on mortality. The chi-square statistic and Mantel-Haenszel weighted odds ratio were used in statistical evaluation. The presence of hypotension, injury of central nervous system, ISS>25, FtTS<4 and GCS<6 were variables that correlated with mortality. in conclusion, these data suggest that the resusciation of the trauma patient should be performed on the basis of these factors shown to correlate with mortality.
