Abstract

Four patients presenting with symptomatic esophagitis associated with hiatal hernia and gastroesophageal reflux underwent operative management under laparoscopic guidance. Antireflux procedure employed was the Nissen fundoplication. The authors completed the operation laparoscopically in three patients. In one patient, disphagia occurred three weeks atter the operation. This complication had been treated laparoscopically. The authors conclude that laparoscopic fundoplication is feasible procedure and offers an afternative form of surgical therapy for patients with gastroesophageal reflux associated with a hiatal hernia.
