Abstract

Between 1986-1996, 40 duodenal injuries were evaluated retrospectively in order to emphasize the difficulty in diagnosis and the high mortality rate in delayed cases. Male to female ratio was 7/1 and the mean age was 27.4. 15 of the patients were injured by gunshot, 14 were injured by penetrating objects, 8 patients by traffic accidents and 3 patients after falling down, in the majority of the cases, primary repair + decompression on 21 patients, primary repair on 15 patients, serosal paten on 2 patients, pyloric exclusion + gastrojejunostomi on one patient, and duodenojejunostomi on one patient was performed, 6 patients were lost. We claim that early diagnosis and treatment in these patients is essential for low morbidity and mortality.
