Abstract

The recurrence rate and testicular complications after conventional inguinal hernia repair remains a matter of discussion and controversy. Reinforcement of inguinal preperitoneal space between peritoneal and musculofascial surfaces has some advantages.

Between November 1988 and May 1990, 52 groin hernias were treated with preperitoneal synthetic mersilen mesh hernioplasty through suprapubic transverse incision at 34 patients. During hernioplasty, lower abdominal operations (56 transvesical prostatectomy, 2 Ripstein operations and 2 cystectomy from over) were performed on ten of the 34 patients.

None of the repairs have failed or infected that required the removal of the mesh.

We believe that preperitoneal synthetic mesh hernioplasty is the easiest, safest and most comfortable procedure for adult patients.
