Abstract

Between 1990 and 1996,150 patients have undergone major surgery for colorectal carcinoma in the Department of Surgery of Gülhane Military Medical Academy. There were 63 (%42) male, 87 (%58) female in this study with ages ranging from 21 to 88, median age was 57. Seventy five (%50) of these carcinomas were located in the rectum and most common grade was moderately differentiated 64 cases (%42.6) and well differentiated 56 cases (%37.4) and Dukes' stage D was 57 cases (%38) and Dukes' stage C was 57 cases (%38), All cases were operated with curative and palliative procedure. The length of follow-up was one to six years, mean 34 months. We have found local recurrence rates of 18% after curative resection.
