Abstract

Twenty-one patients with retroperitoneal tumours were reviewed in Turkey Advanced Specialization Hospital Gastrointestinal Surgery Department between 1991-1996. Leiomyosarcoma, malign schwannoma, liposarcoma were the most common histologic types. There were 13 men and 8 women; the mean age was 46 years (range 15-64years). 14 tumours were malignant,7 were benign total resection was performed in 85 per cent of benign cases and in 21.5 per cent of malignant cases. Operative mortality rate was 4.7 percent.
