Abstract

Synthetic grafts and suture materials are still up to date, since incisional hernia and evisceration are threatening problems following abdominal operations. For this purpose, we formed an abdominal wall defect in animals and compared the effect of single-layer and double-layer prolene grafts from biomechanical and histopathological view. It was observed that, double-layer prolene graft presented with a strong fibrous tissue similar to natural connective tissue. In conclusion, we believe that double-layer prolene graft can be safely used, since it showed better results than other graft materials, known to be providing superior tissue support.
