Abstract

Eight patients with adrenocortical adenoma and 14 with bilateral adrenal hyperplasia were treated with adrenalectomy between 1990 and 1993. Our results have revealed that adrenalectomy should be the treatment of choice in patients with adrenocortical adenoma. Patients with Cushing's disease should be treated with bilateral adrenalectomy when pituitary surgery fails or cannot be performed. We perform adrenal autotransplantation to our patients with bilateral adrenalectomy to avoid life-long replacement of steroids. We suggest that the transplated adrenal tissue should be stimulated by a cortisone weaning process, and that the otogreft function should be determinated by scanning.
