Abstract

The effects of antiadhesive agents on the healing of intestinal anastomosis were investigated in this study. Eighty rats were divided into 8 groups. The colotomy and end to end anastomosis were performed on all rats. Saline solution (control), CMC, aprotinin, verapamil, tenoxicam, cyclosporin and dextran 70 were used intaperitoneally. Vitamin E was used intramuscularly at the beginning of the operation. The rats were sacrificed after 15 days. The intestinal anastomosis were assessed for healing by the bursting pressure of the anastomosis and the measuring of hydroxyproline content of the anastomotic tissues. The results were evaluated by Mann-Whitney's U test. The anastomotic bursting pressure was found to be lower in CMC, aprotinin and cyclosporin groups than the control group. The hydroxyproline levels were lower in CMC and cyclosporin groups than those in the control group. lt was demonstrated that, in this study, CMC and cyclosporin have adverse effects on the healing of intestinal anastomosis in rats.
