Abstract
The aim of this work was to find the effects of experimental extrahepatic cholestasis on endotoxemia, liver and immune system functions and to see the effect of internal drainage on these functions. 40 rats were divided into 4 equal groups. I-Control group (c), II-Sham ligation group (SL), III-Choledoch Ligation group (CI), IV-Internal Drainage group (ID), in CL group; it was found that portal and systemic blood endotoxin was higher when compared to C and SL group. An increase was seen in bilirübin values. Nearly three fold decrease was seen in T4/T8 lymphocyte ratio. There was a significant difference between these results (p<0.05). No significant difference was found in AST, ALT, albumin, creatinin and alkalin phosphatase values. In ID group; blood endotoxin levels was lower compared to CL group. There was a decrease in high bilirübin values. An increase in T4/T8 ratio was seen. These changes were statistically significant (p<0.05). No significant difference was found in AST, ALT, albumin, creatinin and alkalin phosphatase values. As a result in extrahepatic cholestasis, internal drainage was found effective on the recovery of endotoxemia and immune system depression.
