Abstract

Early diagnosis is still an important issue in the treatment of acute appendicitis because of its complications, morbidity and mortality rates. In this study a significant rise in preoperative CRP levels were observed in patients with acute appendicitis. Sensitivity, specifity and positivity rates were found to be 89, 65, 85 percent respectively. These results indicate that CRP, together with other laboratory tests, may be useful in the early diagnosis of acute appendicitis.
