Abstract

The chemopreventive effect of disulfiram (DSF) on experimental colon carcinogenesis has been investigated in this study.

65maleCD-1 mice weighing 30-35 gr were separated into three groups, Colon carcinogenesis was induced by daily subcutaneous dimethylhydrazin (DMH) injections. DSF was given daily 25 mg/Kg doses in drinking water, DSF started five days before DMH injections and continued during the experiment. Mice were sacrificed at 31 st week of the experiment and histopathologic analysis were made in colon and other intraabdominal organs.

There were significant differences in incidence, multiplicity and size of tumours between the groups. It has been understood that, DSF in drinking water, has an inhibitory effect on experimental complete colon carcinogenesis.
