Introduction
Editorial
Dear readers and participants,
Here we are with a new issue that, to our satisfaction, includes more original articles than case reports. We hope that this state will continue and that we will move forward at our goal of being accepted to the Science Citation Index Expanded with the upcoming issues that are composed mainly of experimental and interventional studies. As previously announced, we were asked to re-apply in 2015 after achieving an increase in the citation of articles published in our magazine, and this situation was perceived as a positive development since the general two-year delay was not mandated for re-application. Therefore, using articles published in Ulus Cerrahi Derg as references in your publications in foreign journals is of utmost importance.
The experimental study included in this issue evaluated the effect of preoperative nutrition on the healing of colonic anastomosis in malnourished rats and yielded significant results. Malnutrition is very common in patients undergoing colon surgery in our country, as in some other countries. The contribution of new studies with different eating models based on results of such studies is apparent.
The prospective study indicating that weight gain during adjuvant chemotherapy for breast cancer has negative effects on disease-free period and survival once again emphasizes the importance of weight problems that are considered as a disease of our era.
Also included in this issue are retrospective clinical studies covering a long period on different interesting subjects, as well as rare case reports, and an invited review on the treatment of umbilical hernias.
We inquire your on-going interest and contribution to our journal, hope to meet again in upcoming issues, and thank to those all who have contributed.
