Abstract
This study has been performed on patients admitted to our clinic with the diagnosis of acute cholecystitis. Patients were randomly divided into three groups and the study was performed prospectively.
In the first group of patients cholecystectomy was performed in the first 72 hours.
In the second group conservative treatment was done in acute phase and operation was performed 2 months later.
The third group consisted of patients operated electively for gallbladder stones.
In this study, groups were compared according to intra operative findings, operative time, morbidity, mortality and hospitalization period. As a conclusion early surgical intervention in acute cholecystitis was found to be a safe, minimally complicated procedure which can also decrease hospitalization periods.
