Dear readers,
Our magazine sustains its progress with new developments in 2016 with your scientific contributions. It is our shared desire that the Turkish Journal of Surgery takes part in the Science Citation Index (SCI) and Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE) directories. The Web of Science database containing these indices was restructured in 2016 by Thomson Reuters. In this context, a new directory called Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESC) was added to the Web of Science database. ESCI covers active magazines published in different scientific fields. Web of Science readers can access journals indexed in this directory as other magazines contained in the SCI and SCIE directories. Articles published in the Turkish Journal of Surgery since the beginning of 2015 have been enlisted in the ESCI index since March 2016. Sharing this news with you makes all of us who participate in the magazine pleased. We think that our magazine will successfully complete the process within this directory with your support.
In this issue of our magazine we aimed to attract the attention of our readers with clinical research studies as usual. The clinical research examining cyclooxygenase-2-expression in determining the prognosis of breast cancer and helping find a new target in the treatment may lead way to new studies. In the study comparing laparoscopic and robotic colorectal surgery, the authors shared their own clinical experience. Another study focused on the perception of general surgeons in our country of single port laparoscopic surgery practice that has been developing in recent years as well as their experience. The studies addressing incidental adrenal masses and gallbladder cancer remind us what kind of a surgical approach we should apply in unexpected situations. Similarly, the study reporting the different locations of hydatid disease indicates that this entity should always be kept in mind as part of differential diagnosis in our country. Again, two studies comparing the Alvarado score with different laboratory parameters and radiologic methods in the diagnosis of acute appendicitis, which is a common disease in general surgery, will be guiding our colleagues in this regard. In the surgical technique section that is recently added to our magazine, the presentation on laparoscopic common bile duct cyst excision is important for us to realize different surgical approaches. The review article on sportsman’s hernia also contributes to our comprehension.
