Abstract

22 patients with a definite diagnosis of acute mesenteric ischemia have been operated in the Emergency Surgery Department of Cerrahpaşa Medical Faculty between 1989 and 1991. Conditions effecting mortality in these cases, have been retrospectively evaluated. Mortality rates due to different ethiologies have been estimated as 69% for arterial embolism and 87.5% for arterial trombosis. Total mortality rate was 77%. All of the cases admitted to the hospital later than 24 hours, who had a recent history of myocardial infarction and who had a blood amylase level greater than 3 times of normal were lost.
